Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s chief ministerial candidate in Punjab and state president Bhagwant Mann raised the issue of pending cane dues in the Parliament.
The farmers have not received cane dues amounting to Rs 1.25 crore for the 2020-21 season and Rs 20 crore for the 2022 season which has affected the financial condition of the farmers. It takes one year to grow sugarcane and if they don’t get their dues in time, they find it difficult to support their families, he said.
He appealed to the Parliament to ensure that the farmers get their cane dues with interest on it as per the Sugarcane Control Act 1996.
The AAP leader also claimed that there were no Punjab MPs present in the Lok Sabha when he raised the issue of the sugarcane farmers on Wednesday.
