Maharashtra is all set to produce record sugar production in the ongoing season. Kolapur region plays key role in the state’s sugar output by producing maximum sweetener. The region has also registered a more than 11.50 per cent sugar recovery rate in the current season.
In the Kolhapur division, a total of 36 sugar mills participated in the cane crushing operations which include 26 cooperative mills and 10 private mills. They have produced 285.57 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 243.17 lakh tonnes of cane till March 21, 2022, with a recovery rate of 11.74 per cent.
Total 19 sugar mills have stopped operations in the state including 14 from Kolhapur region.
