Maharashtra: Sugar mills make 98 per cent sugarcane payment

Mumbai: Maharashtra has not performed well in sugarcane and sugar production only but is also ahead in cane payment (FRP).

According to the news report published in The Times of India, around 98 per cent of the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) dues of farmers have been settled so far.

The sugarcane crushing that completes within 120-140 days is expected to take 160 days this season due to bumper production of sugarcane in the state.

The surplus sugarcane in the Marathwada region is the cause of concern for the ongoing crushing season and it has become difficult for mills in Marathwada to complete the crushing of available cane. Therefore, mills and administration are taking steps to ensure no cane remains in the feild.
