The equity benchmark indices ended lower today. On May 4, Sensex closed 1,306.96 points lower at 55,669.03. Nifty ended 391.50 points lower at 16,677.60.
In a surprise move, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday increased the policy repo rate by 40 basis points to 4.40 per cent with immediate effect. Its effect was seen on stock market today.
In the previous season, on May 2, Sensex closed 84.88 points lower at 56,975.99. Nifty ended 33.45 points lower at 17,069.10.
Apollo Hospitals, Adani Ports, Hindalco Industries, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv were among the top Nifty losers, while gainers were ONGC, Britannia Industries, Power Grid Corporation, NTPC and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
