Roorkee, Uttarakhand: Laksar sugar mill has procured record sugarcane this season and continued operations for more than 166 days, reports Live Hindustan.
It is the last sugar mill in the state to shut the operations as other eight mills had already concluded their season. The mill declared closure of the crushing season on Sunday as the amount of cane supplied by the farmers was lowering day by day.
Ajay Kumar Khandelwal, principal manager of the mill, said that last year 129.53 quintals of sugarcane was bought. Whereas, in current season 145.77 lakh quintals of sugarcane has been crushed. No mill in the entire state has procured so much of cane.
The mill has cleared cane dues of the farmers that had supplied cane to the mill till March 31 and the remaining cane dues will be sent to the cane committees soon, said the mill administration.
