Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) has threatened to initiate action against those traders and businesses responsible for hiking sugar prices across the country.
According to the media report, BSFIC issued a press release on Tuesday stating that the maximum retail price of a 1kg pack of organic brown sugar would be Tk85. Sugar is however sold at shops at the hiked rate of Tk100-120 by changing the factory price seal.
These activities are damaging the reputation of the corporation and its product brown sugar, said the release.
BSFIC has urged the consumers not to pay extra money to the shop owners and check the packaging before buying the sweetener.
