Karnal: Haryana farmers are facing problems irrigating sugarcane and other crops as the extended dry spell and heat wave has increased their problem along with the poor power supply, reports Hindustan Times.
Farmers claim that they use tube wells to irrigate their crops and need the power supply for the same. The power supply to agriculture feeders has been lowered from 8 hours to 5 hours and this is insufficient to provide water to farms.
Ratan Mann, BKU Tikait’s Haryana president said, “Farmers are facing difficulties to save their crop as five hours power supply is not sufficient to irrigate one acre.”
The electricity supply to the agriculture feeders has been fixed at five hours but they also provide unscheduled supply to the feeders if they are issued directions, said district-level officials of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.
