Shamli sugar mill tops in sugarcane productivity

Shamli: Shamli sugar mill has once again topped Uttar Pradesh in terms of the best cane productivity though the mill continues to default on the pending cane dues to the farmers, reports The Times of India.

As per the data available with the sugar commissioner, UP, on an average 1014.1 quintals of crop per hectare were registered in Shamli followed by Muzaffarnagar which stood at the second position, and Meerut in third place.

Vijay Bahadur Singh, district cane officer said, “The productivity indicates the sugarcane grown in a 1-hectare area. The area under cane cultivation has increased to 79,801 ha in 2022-23 from 77,247 ha in 2021-22. The hard work of farmers has resulted in Shamli achieving top rank in the state.”

Farmers are well aware of the techniques to increase the production of sugarcane and protect crops from diseases. Farmers are also giving priority to sugarcane cultivation as they get assured returns as against other crops.
