The state government is working to find out a permanent solution for sugarcane farmers of Uttar Pradesh as they are going to be our future, said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, reports Hindustan Times.
He was speaking at a function where he distributed share certificates to 50.10 lakh (5.01 million) farmers associated with the cooperative sugar mill societies and cooperative sugarcane societies.
Addressing the farmers at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow, he said, “We are working to ensure the welfare of the sugarcane farmers giving it a top-most priority. Today’s event has revived the cooperative movement of the country and our farmers are now on their way to not only be participants but also the owners of the system they are associated with.”
“The ups and downs of the sugar market will be tackled by producing a large amount of ethanol. The use of technology will help in keeping away the sugarcane mafia and eliminate other corrupt elements existing in the system,” he said.
Our government has so far paid “a record” of Rs 1.77 lakh crore directly to sugarcane farmers which is three times more than the annual budget of several states and more than what farmers received between 2007 and 2017, he said.
