Ethanol production in Maharashtra is likely to increase to 140 crore litres next year, predict the experts in the sugar sector, reports Economic Times.
“Hence, the sugar industry in Maharashtra will also be called as the energy industry in times to come,” Jayprakash Dandegavkar, Chairman, National Federation of Co-operative Sugar Factories Limited was quoted as saying by PTI.
Around 78 plants of the sugar mills in the state produced 100.36 crore litres of ethanol in the 2020-21 season.
‘This year the state has produced 75.88 crore litres of ethanol so far through 85 plants. The ethanol production could reach 130 to 140 crore litres by next year through 90 ethanol-producing units. Apart from ethanol, the sugar mills will be focusing on the production of electricity and hydrogen,” he further added.
