Panipat: From April next year, petrol with 20% ethanol blending will be available for sale at select petrol pumps in India.
Oil Minister Hardeep Puri said, “E20 petrol (petrol blended with 20 per cent ethanol) in some quantity will be available from April 2023 and the rest to be covered by 2025.”
India achieved 10% ethanol blending in June this year, much ahead of the set target and advanced the target of 20% ethanol blending to 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion of World Biofuel Day on Wednesday, dedicated the 2nd generation (2G) ethanol plant that was set by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
The plant will generate around 3 crore litres of ethanol annually using 2 lakh tonnes of rice straw (parali).
