Raipur: First ethanol plant in Chhattisgarh will be set up near Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory in Kabirdham district under Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had earlier stated that setting up an agriculture-based ethanol plant is one of the priority schemes of his government. Following this implementation of the project has been expedited.
The government has roped in private players for financial and technical participation in the project that would strengthen the state’s economy.
The capacity of the plant would be 80 kilo litres per day (KLPD). According to government officials, this is the first-ever plant set up in the country under the PPP module.
A contract has been signed between Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory and NKJ Biofuel, a subsidiary of Chhattisgarh Distillery.
While speaking to ChiniMandi.com, Bhupendra Thakur, MD of Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory, said, “We are using hybrid technology for this plant. In this, ethanol will be made directly from sugarcane juice during the sugarcane crushing season and molasses during off-season. Plant is expected to commence operations in the initial months of next year. It will also generate employment in the region.”
