Singapore: HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd is eyeing to set up a bio-ethanol plant in 2023 at its Bathinda refinery to reduce its carbon emission, said a company official on Wednesday, reports Reuters.
Pravin Shirke, assistant general manager at HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) said, “Our company is in the process of constructing 100,000 tonnes per annum ethanol plant based on agricultural inputs like waste food.”
He was speaking at the Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference (APPEC). The plant will start operations in 2023, he said.
HMEL is the joint venture of Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd and Mittal Energy Investments.
India has set a target to blend 20% ethanol with gasoline in some parts of the country from April 2023 and throughout the nation till 2025/26 to reduce carbon emissions.
