Chennai: Maize farmers have been facing heavy crop losses due to attacks by wild boars and the AIADKM has demanded the government to provide the necessary compensation to these farmers, reports Newsroom Odisha.
AIADMK leader and legislator R B Udhayakumar have urged the government to take up the issue on a priority basis and grant assistance to maize farmers.
Farmers spend Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 per acre for growing maize crop and the wild boar enters into the farms and destroys the entire crop, said a farmer who has lost his maize crop.
The Tamil Nadu agriculture department has sent a team of officials to assess the crop loss in Madurai, Usailampatti, Vadipatti and other areas due to a wild boar attack.
“If the fences are laid at the end of reserve forest areas after digging pits would help in preventing wild boar attacks on farms,” said farmers associated with the Mullai Periyar Farmers Association.
