Kolhapur: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, an organisation fighting for the rights of farmers, has urged the Karnataka government to pay additional Rs 200 on fair and remunerative prices (FRP) to cane farmers from disputed areas of the Karnataka-Maharashtra border that are supplying cane to the mills in Karnataka, reports Uniindia.
A delegation of SSS led by state president Dr Jalandhar Patil met Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday when he was on a visit to inaugurate the Sant Samavesh convention at Shree Kadsiddheshwar math at Kaneri village in Karveer tehsil of Kolhapur district.
The delegation submitted a memorandum of their demands including the demand to cancel the plan to raise the height of the Almatti dam.
Objecting to the government’s plan to raise the height of the dam, Patil said that this could lead to flooding in the Kolhapur and Sangli districts of Maharashtra.
