Pune: Farmers in the Solapur district of Maharashtra have launched an agitation demanding higher prices for sugarcane, reports The Indian Express.
Farmers are obstructing the vehicles carrying the harvested cane to the mills for crushing and at some places they deflated the tyres. Cane growers are demanding the state government to look into the matter and address their issues on a priority basis.
According to police officials, on Wednesday night, unidentified persons deflated around 11 tyres of a tractor-trolley near Wakhari in Solapur.
Several farmers’ organisations have come together and formed the Solapur District Sugarcane Rate Struggle Committee and demanding Rs 3100 per tonne for sugarcane.
Farmers have appealed to transporters not to carry a cane to the sugar mills or they will face the wrath.
