Sugarcane farmers in Maharashtra demand profit share in ethanol sale

Sugarcane farmers in Maharashtra have demanded a profit share in the sale of ethanol produced from the diversion of sugar and hike in FRP.

According to the media report, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana said that the farmers want a hike in FRP and share in the profit earned from the sale of ethanol. This should exclude H&T costs of sugarcane, he said.

The centre has fixed the FRP of sugarcane at Rs 3050 per tonne for the 2022-23 season.

“Farmers are cheated by mills using faulty weighing machines and this should be avoided by controlling all the procurement centres of the sugar mills by a central system through the internet,” he was quoted as saying by Rural Voice.
