Karnataka farmers to protest outside CM office demanding higher FRP for cane

Mysuru: Sugarcane farmers protesting for higher fair and remunerative price (FRP) for sugarcane will stage an indefinite stir in front of the house of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai at Bengaluru from November 22, reports Star of Mysore.

Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the State Sugarcane Growers Association said, “The farmers have launched several demonstrations in the various parts of the state demanding the government to declare FRP for cane but the government has not taken any step regarding this. The Sugar Minister had promised that some good news regarding FRP will come by November 20 but nothing has happened so far. Hence we have decided to stage a protest in front of the CM’s house.”

“We want the government to hike FRP for the cane to Rs 3,500 per tonne and urge the millers to lower the cane transportation costs as per the government guidelines,” he added.
