Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh: Taking steps to prevent the burning of sugarcane leaves in their fields, the cane department of the Uttar Pradesh government has started distributing decomposer substances to farmers, reports IANS.
The scientific method of decomposing crop residue is being shared with the farmers by the scientists of the UP council of sugarcane research (UPCSR) and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK).
District cane officer, Jitendra Kumar Mishra said, “One unit of decomposer has been provided to every cane farmer by the department free of cost. This will help in reducing air pollution as well as provide adequate eco-friendly manure to the farmers.”
The dry leaves after applying decomposer are converted to manure within 10 to 12 days and this product is rich in nitrogen, potash, phosphorus and other micronutrients, said Dr Shailendra Singh Dhaka, a plant physiologist of KVK at Pilibhit.
