Government permits sugar mills to exchange export quota

New Delhi: Sugar mills in the country have been permitted to exchange 2.14 lakh tonnes of (lt) sugar exports amongst themselves and adjusted with the domestic quota taking the total quantity to over 4.5 lt, reports The Hindu Businessline.

Around 17 sugar mills had sought permission from the Food Ministry to exchange quota and 2.14 lt was approved on November 28 though they were allotted to export 2.88 lt.

The centre had on November 5 allowed sugar mills to export 60 lt of sugar by May 31, 2023. The Food Ministry allocated the export quota to the sugar mills allowing them to exchange quota between the mills.
The mill that wants to surrender the export quota has to do it before January 4 and the quota will be adjusted with the domestic sale quantity allotted every month, as per the guidelines of the government.
