Najibabad: Farmers demand to increase capacity of sugar mill

Najibabad: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of BKU met Ramakant Pandey, Managing director of the Kisan cooperative sugar mill and demanded an increase in the crushing capacity of the sugar mill, reports Amar Ujala.

Baburam Tomar, Mandal president of BKU and district youth wing president Varun Gurjar handed over the memorandum to Pandey regarding their demands.

Six years ago, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had promised to increase the capacity of the sugar mill but nothing has happened so far, said Tomar. The mill is crushing 28,000 to 30,000 quintals of sugarcane every day and we want the capacity to be doubled so that the farmers would be able to clear their fields by harvesting crops, he said.

“Farmers are forced to sell their cane to the local crushers and jaggery units and if the mill fails to increase crushing capacity we would launch an agitation,” he added.
