Farmers call Mandya bandh demanding hike in sugarcane price

Mysore/Mysuru: Farmers’ organisation KRRS (Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha) has called Mandya bandh on December 19 demanding a hike in the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane to Rs 4,500 per tonne, reports Star of Mysore.

Badagalapura Nagendra, president of the organisation, said that the FRP fixed by the Center is not sufficient to recover even the production costs of sugarcane.

“Farmers have been protesting for the last 40 days but the government didn’t pay heed to our demands. Hence we have given a call for Mandya Bandh on December 19 to press for our demands,” he added.
