Yamunanagar sugar mills gives sugarcane payment to farmers

Ambala: Saraswati Sugar Mills (SSM) based in Yamunanagar has transferred Rs 55 crore as relief to sugarcane farmers even though the state government is yet to announce the state advisory price (SAP) for the ongoing crushing season, reports Hindustan Times.

The mill was the first in the state to start crushing operations on November 8 and it has crushed 42 lakh quintals of cane so far. The officials stated that the mill has paid cane bills to the farmers for the crop procured till November 30.

Dharam Pal Singh, senior vice-president (cane division) of the mill said, “The steps have been taken by the mill to help farmers as they are facing a financial crisis to meet their daily expenses. The funds have been transferred to their accounts on Wednesday.”

The remaining amount will be transferred to them once the government announces SAP for cane, he added.
