Sugarcane farmers threaten to gherao CM’s residence

Belgavi: Sugarcane farmers have threatened to gherao the residence of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on December 31 if the government fails to accept their demands, reports India Today.

The farmers are planning to intensify their agitation against the government from Monday as they have not heard anything back from the government.

Kurbur Shanthkumar, president of, the sugarcane farmers association said, “Government has not acted on our demands hence we have decided to intensify our agitation.”

Farmers will sit on Satyagrah from December 26 and go on a hunger strike. If their demands are not met by December 31, then they will gherao the residence of CM in Bengaluru on December 31.

Farmers want the government to hike fair and remunerative prices (FRP) for cane and decrease cane cutting and transportation rates.
