Three smugglers nabbed with 1.6 tonnes of sugar

The personnel of the Border Security Force’s (BSF) 4th Battalion nabbed three suspects allegedly carrying a large quantity of sugar in a vehicle to be smuggled into Bangladesh, reports Highland Post.

The action was taken following a tip-off received by the officials. It was found that the suspects were carrying 1.6 tonnes of sugar near the international border in West Jaintia Hills and the vehicle was heading towards the Muktapur border area when the border forces detained them.

All three are residents of Amlarem from where they have loaded the sugar, as per the BSF press release.

Since last year, the border guards have seized more than 2 lakh kg of sugar.
