Jalandhar, Punjab: Mukerian Sugar mill owes the highest amount of pending cane dues of farmers for the ongoing crushing season, reports Tribune India.
Farmers under the banner of the United Farmers Association staged six-hour agitation and the agitation was called off after the administration assured them to clear pending cane dues worth Rs 117 crore in four installments by March 12.
Satnam Sahni of the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti said that the farmers were not getting payment from the Bhogpur and Butran sugar mills.
“The Bhogpur mill has not cleared cane dues despite assuring farmers to clear their dues within 14 days of purchasing their cane. Butran Sugar mill had cleared cane dues to farmers on January 5,” he said.
