Sugar mill clears cane dues of last crushing season

Shamli: Shamli and Thanabhavan sugar mills cleared pending cane dues of the last crushing season, reports Amar Ujala.

Both mills owed dues worth Rs 31.19 crore to the cane farmers. Thanabhavan and Shamli sugar mills began cane crushing on November 1 and Unn sugar mill began crushing operations on November 10 this season. During last season Shamli mill purchased a cane worth Rs 374.67 crore, Unn sugar mill purchased a cane worth Rs 337 crore, and Thanabhavan sugar mill purchased a cane worth Rs 439.99 crore.

This year by January 23, Unn sugar mill had cleared pending cane dues and Shamali mill owed Rs 77.23 crore and Thanabhavan sugar mill owed Rs 46.20 crore. The administration had given a deadline of February 22 to Thanabhavan sugar mill and February 28 to Shamli sugar mill to clear dues.

Till February 23, Shamli mill owed Rs 25.98 crore and Thanabhavan mill owed Rs 5.21 crore. As per the Sugarcane department, the sugar mills had cleared Rs 31.19 crore for the cane farmers.

DCO Vijay Bahadur Sinh said that the Shamli and Thanabhavan sugar mills cleared all the pending cane dues of the last season.
