Rohata, Uttar Pradesh: Heavy rainfall in the region has resulted in lowering the supply of cane for crushing at the Kinauni sugar mill for the last two days, reports Live Hindustan.
Sugarcane crops that are to be harvested are suffering from water logging due to heavy rainfall in the region for the last two days. The cane collection centres could purchase only 8,000 quintals of cane and the mill could purchase only 9,000 quintals of cane at the gate. The cane collection centres used to purchase 80,000-tonne cane and the mill used to purchase 35,000 tonnes at the gate on normal days.
The mill was operated at a slow pace during the last 12 hours due to a lower supply of cane.
K P Singh, vice president of the mill said that if the supply of the cane continues to remain low then we will be forced to shut operations at the mill.
