Chennai: The area under cane cultivation in Tamil Nadu has been increased from 95,000 hectares to 1.5 lakh hectares from 2020-21 to 2022-21 crushing season, said agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister MRK Panneerselvam, reports The Times of India.
“For cooperative sugar mills, we have sanctioned a new ethanol plant. We are ensuring that the cane farmers get a support price of Rs 4,000 per quintal and we will work on it in the next three years of our remaining rule,” he said.
The ethanol plant will be commissioned next year and we have a detailed project report for setting up the ethanol plant, he said.
