Kolhapur: As many as 170 Maharashtrians, most of them from Sangli, Kolhapur and Satara districts that were working in the Kenana sugar factory in the White Nile state are stuck in the country due to the conflict between the Sudanese military and paramilitary group in the country’s capital Khartoum, reports The Times of India.
The sugar mill is located around 450 km away from Khartoum which is now deserted. The Indians stuck in the sugar factory are awaiting to be evacuated as early as possible as they feel it’s difficult to travel by road to Port Sudan.
Tanaji Patil, a boiler engineer working at the factory said, “There are no security arrangements but the factory authorities have assured us that they would allow us to use their airstrip if we could get an airlift facility.”
Under Operation Kaveri, a first batch of 336 Indians, most of them from Khartoum, have been evacuated.
