Rio de Janeiro: Brazil will be setting up a working group that will study the option of raising ethanol blending in gasoline to 30%, said Mines and Energy Minister Alexander Silveira, reports Financial Post.
He was speaking at a sugar and ethanol industry event in Minas Gerais.
At present Brazil has set the standard ethanol content in gasoline at 27%. The working group will study increasing this to 30%, minister said.
The world’s largest ethanol industries are in Brazil and most cars here run on 100% biofuel made from sugarcane or corn.
Brazil’s ability to produce and sell hybrid cars that run on 100% ethanol is a huge asset for its auto industry, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin said earlier.
“This will contribute to our country’s energy security by reducing gasoline imports,” said Silveira.
