Kolhapur: Superintendent of Police Shailesh Balkawade has assured the sugarcane farmers that strict action will be initiated against the cane cutters supplying contractors for cheating farmers, reports Agrowan.
The initial investigation suggests that the farmers were cheated by these contractors and we are taking steps to take action against them, he said.
The issue was raised by the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana members who stated that farmers and cane transporters are being cheated to the tune of Rs 33 crore by cane cutter contractors.
