Government not likely to lift ban on wheat export

New Delhi: The government has clarified that there will be no lifting of the ban on the export of wheat. However, it would consider the shipment of the commodity through diplomatic channels on a case-to-case basis, reports The Times of India.

Taking note of the rising prices of food grains in the domestic market, India banned the export of wheat in May 2022. Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said that there are no chances of allowing wheat exports and we will take a call if the Ministry of External Affairs requests for it. India is supplying some quantity of wheat to Nepal and Bangladesh via a government-to-government trade arrangement.

Additional Secretary of the Food Ministry Subodh Kumar said, “India is not a wheat exporter country and it exported it during the last three years due to surplus production.”
