Sydney: Winter crop production in Australia is likely to fall from record highs due to the prediction of drier weather following record rainfall for three years brought by La Nina, as per the agriculture department of the country, according to reuters.
Crop production in winter is likely to fall to 44.9 million tonnes in 2023-24 (34% lower) which would be around 3% below the 10-year average for 2022-23 of 46.4 million tonnes, states the June crop report of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
The expectations of the El Nino phenomenon would result in drier weather between June and August with below-average rainfall affecting wheat, barley and other crop production, according to the report.
Easing global prices for grains and oilseeds and lower production is expected to lower agricultural exports by 17% to A$65 billion in 2023-24.
