Shri Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur shall attend 33rd session of International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis (ICUMSA) at Vienna, Austria from 12-14th June 2023. Director, National Sugar Institute is also the Associate Referee of the organization. Shri Ashok Garg, Assistant Professor of Sugar Technology shall also participate in the session.
International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis is the apex organization who prescribes methods for analysis of sugar and sugar house products to be adopted globally. The organization convenes session after every three years to discuss studies made by scientists of different countries on various methods of analysis and then reviews the existing methods or recommends new methods of analysis.
During the last three years, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur has also carried out studies on newer techniques for determining sugar content using automatic saccharimeter working at wavelengths in visible and near infra-red regions. By doing so, we can eliminate use of lead subacetate, a hazardous chemical during analysis and the observations made shall be presented for discussions and adoption, said Shri Narendra Mohan, Director.
