Chandigarh: Punjab government has hired Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for six months to help in crop diversification and management of crop stubble, reports Tribune India.
The consultant will help the state govt. to shift the wheat-paddy monoculture to increase the area under sugarcane cultivation and other crops. It will also assist the govt in formulating the agriculture policy that would be announced by June end.
The government would pay Rs 5.65 crore to the company for the work.
According to media report, the government wants to increase the area under cotton to 3 lakh hectares from 2.50 lakh hectares and for moong to 30,000 hectares.
Apart from this the government also aims to increase the area under sugarcane to 1.25 lakh hectares and basmati to 6 lakh hectares from 4.94 lakh hectares last year.
