Govt plans to bring approvals and clearances of ethanol and sugar projects under NSWS: Media report

New Delhi: The National Single Window System (NSWS) developed by the Department of Promotion of Industry and International Trade (DPIT) might be used to provide all approvals and clearances for sugar and ethanol projects, reports Live Mint.

This one-stop digital platform provides an avenue for investors for approval and clearance from over 32 central departments and 32 states and Union territories. This will also work in curbing market manipulation in the ethanol and sugar sectors.

Every month the Department of Food and public distribution (DFPD) allocates sugar sales quota to mills, said a government official. The sugar division is trying to migrate its digital operations to the NSWS portal, he said.

The priority of the department is the management information system (MIS) of sugar and ethanol, he said.

According to the media report, before, when the department of food and public distribution entered data manually, it made sensitive information vulnerable to being leaked. Certain non-governmental agencies or organizations would share information, like the monthly sugar sales quota for mills, with the public before the government did.
