Kuala Lumpur: The government has asked the retailers not to sell sugar with conditions as it is against the law, reports New Straits Times.
Strict action could be taken against such retailers if found violating rules, which includes suspension of business license, said Fuziah Salleh, Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister.
“By doing conditional sell, retailers are violating the Control Supplies Act 1961. Retailers try to increase their profit margin sometimes as they earn a profit of 10 sen by selling standard sugar which is very low,” she said.
But we should remind them that this is wrong, she added.
As per the reports, the retailers have put conditions that consumers should purchase a kilogram of premium sugar at RM4.60 a pack for every 2 kg of coarse sugar costing RM2.85 a pack.
