The Thai cabinet has approved the promotion of ethanol in the production of bioplastics aiming to develop eco-friendly materials, said government spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri, reports The Thaiger.
Existing law states that domestically produced ethanol can only be used for fuel and liquor production. Ethanol is blended in benzene to create gasohol. With the increase in the use of electric vehicles and the lowering consumption of fuel, ethanol is being used for industrial purposes.
By promoting the use of ethanol for bioplastic production, the government is promoting the production of biodegradable materials.
Apart from this, the government has issued guidelines for the use of ethanol in the industrial sector.
