Area under cane cultivation in Kolhapur increases by 13,000 hectares in last three years

Kolhapur: Farmers are turning towards cane cultivation as they are getting good returns for the crop. In Kolhapur district, the area under cane cultivation has increased by 30,000 hectares in the last three years with an increase of 13,000 hectares this year, reports Pudhari.

Taking note of the increase in area under cane cultivation, sugar mills in the district have begun planning to start operations to ensure that they crush all the cane grown in the region.

An increase in irrigation facilities and attractive returns is one of the major reasons for farmers turning towards cane cultivation.

Sugar mills in the district have also increased cane crushing capacity which helps in crushing all the cane grown in the district.
