Sugar mills in Pune owe FRP around Rs 189 crore

Pune: Pune: Despite the cane crushing season concluding over two and a half months ago, sugarcane farmers are yet to receive their pending dues from the sugar mills, reports Agrowan.

11 sugar mills in Pune region have not paid approximately Rs 189 crore as Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) to the farmers for their cane produce.

During the cane-crushing season, a total of 17 sugar mills operated, commencing on November 15. These mills processed 1 crore 26 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 1 crore 26 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, achieving a recovery rate of 9.99 percent.

The mills were obligated to pay a total FRP amounting to around Rs 4,319.48 crore to the farmers for the cane supplied. As of now, they have only disbursed Rs 4,129.62 crore, leaving a pending amount.
In response, sugarcane farmers and their organizations are urging the mills to clear the outstanding dues promptly.
