Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh: The area under cane cultivation in the district has been increased by 2000 hectares. This surge indicates a growing inclination among farmers towards sugarcane farming, reports Amar Ujala.
The data has been revealed by the sugarcane survey conducted by government officials and sugar mills ahead of starting a new season. After completing the ongoing crushing season, the sugar mills started preparations for the next crushing season by doing the maintenance and repair work.
During the last season area under cane cultivation was 2.55 lakh hectares while it has reached 2.57 lakh hectares this season. So far 95% of the survey has been completed and the department is yet to complete the remaining survey. Most of the farmers have planted 0338 varieties of sugarcane as it is high yielding and gives good returns.
