Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers from the Western Uttar Pradesh region are battling to bring control the spread of Pokkha Boeing disease on sugarcane crops, reports Live Hindustan.
The region is famous for growing quality sugarcane crop in the state and the farmers as well as the sugarcane department is working on a priority basis to stop the spread of disease.
During the 2022-23 season, sugar mills in Meerut have produced more than 40 lakh quintals of sugarcane but now pokka boing has affected cane grown in the district.
Dr B S Tomar, chief manager of RBNS Sugar Mill, Luxar said that the farmers should take immediate steps to keep check on the spread of the disease.
Rajesh Mishra, Deputy Cane Commissioner of the Meerut region, mentioned that the outbreak of Pokkha Boeing disease has been observed in certain areas. Departmental officials are actively raising awareness among farmers and providing assistance in controlling the disease.
