Uncertainty haunts farmers over cropping pattern in Mysuru region

Mysuru: Farmers in the Mysuru-Mandya-Chamarajanagar region are facing uncertainty as they confront the need to transition from water-intensive crops to drought-resistant ones due to unpredictable monsoon patterns.

Many farmers in this area have long adhered to a set of specific crops, often considered a cherished family tradition, and are hesitant to deviate from this practice. However, the erratic monsoon rains have raised concerns among a significant number of farmers who traditionally cultivate paddy and sugarcane. They are now questioning the viability of continuing with these crops, considering the imminent threat of water scarcity.
