Saharanpur: Several months have passed since the closure of the sugarcane crushing season but three sugar mills in the district owe dues worth Rs 270 crore to the farmers, reports Live Hindustan.
These mills include Gagnauli, Gagalheri, and Sherumau sugar mills.
As per the Sugarcane Control Act, sugar mills must clear cane dues of farmers within 14 days of sending their cane for crushing but the mills have defaulted in payment.
Deoband, Nanauta and Sarrawa sugar mills have cleared 100% cane dues of the farmers.
The district cane officer has asked the other sugar mills to ensure that they clear the pending cane dues of farmers at the earliest.
