Shahjahanpur: To learn the intricacies of sugarcane production techniques and related research activities, a nine-member delegation from Sri Lanka, under the guidance of Yara Fertilizers India Private Limited, visited the Sugarcane Research Institute on Friday, reports Live Hindustan.
The Director of the Sugarcane Research Council, Dr. Sudhir Shukla, informed that the Sri Lankan delegation included Lahiru Kumarsiri from the Sugarcane Research Institute of Sri Lanka, Emil Indika, and Suresh Rana Singh, K.B. Vidur Singh from Pelwatte Sugar, Mahesh Chandna, Jayan Kumara, and Demith Panditharathna from Sevanagala Sugar Mill, Sugath Priyantha, and Sushil Indika.
Welcoming all the members, the director elaborated on the current scenario of the sugarcane and sugar industry in Uttar Pradesh and engaged in a comprehensive discussion. The members of the delegation were first taken to tour the research field, where they observed the cultivated crop in the tissue culture laboratory, followed by an in-depth review of the well-established crops after transplantation in the field and appreciation for the efforts of tissue culture for seed enhancement. The delegation extensively discussed with the scientists all stages of development of new varieties in the research field.
