Farmers threaten to agitate for pending cane dues

Kawardha : Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Samruddha Chhattisgarh Kisan Sangh have decided to gherao a sugar mill demanding payment of pending cane dues, reports Dainik Bhaskar.

The farmers have handed over the memorandum of their demands to the MD of the Pandariya sugar mill regarding the payment of cane dues and bonuses at the earliest.

Apart from this, the farmers in the Pipriya area planning to protest power cuts that have been going on for the past two months, making it difficult to irrigate their crops.

A meeting of the Bhartiya Kisan Sangh was held in the village of Kesli on Sunday to discuss the issue. The Sangh decided to stage a protest at the Pipriya substation on Monday at 1 p.m.

“Currently, there is no rain, and crops are drying up,” said Loknath Dohre, president of the Pipriya tehsil unit of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh. “Due to power cuts, farmers are unable to irrigate their crops.”

The Sangh is demanding that power be provided to agricultural pumps 24 hours a day without interruption.
