Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab: Protesters representing the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rajewal, along with five other farmers’ organizations, gathered outside the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to voice their demands for compensation for sugarcane and other crops in the wake of recent floods, reports Tribune India.
A memorandum was submitted by farmers union members to the Deputy Commissioner to forward it to the Chief Minister.
Leaders of the farming community expressed deep concern over the extensive damage caused to crops and livestock due to the recent floods. They have put forth the request for financial relief amounting to Rs 50,000 per acre to assist the affected farmers whose sugarcane, paddy, fodder, and vegetable crops have been completely wiped out.
Additionally, the leaders called for the waiver of loans obtained from both government and non-governmental banks. They issued a warning that if their demands are not addressed by September 20, they will initiate a protest.
