Karnataka: Sugar factory AGM postponed after ruckus by Udupi Raitha Sangha members

Mangaluru, Karnataka: The annual general body meeting (AGM) of the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Sugar Factory in Brahmavar, Udupi district, was abruptly postponed on Monday after some members of the Udupi district Raitha Sangha barged into the meeting and created a ruckus, reported The Hindu.

The sangha members alleged that they were not invited to the meeting, they did not get the meeting notice, and there were irregularities in the sale of scrap materials at the factory.

Bykady Suprasad Shetty, president of the factory, denied the allegations of irregularities and said that all due processes were followed. He said that the protest during the meeting was politically motivated.

The former chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council and president of Udupi district Raitha Sangha K. Prathapchandra Shetty alleged that the scrap items were not bifurcated and all scrap items were sold as per the whims of the president and the Managing Director of the factory. He alleged that this deal smacked of huge corruption and should be thoroughly investigated by the government.

The AGM will be rescheduled and held before September 25.
