Bagpat: The Kisan Union has announced a major protest over unpaid sugarcane dues in western Uttar Pradesh, a key sugarcane-growing region of the country, reported Live Hindustan.
The Kisan Union held a panchayat in Loyan-Malkpur village on Wednesday to discuss the issue. Speakers at the meeting said that the union would launch a protest within the next few weeks if the dues were not paid.
“This is a major issue for farmers in western Uttar Pradesh,” said Kisan Union’s national president Shavit Malik. “We will not rest until the dues are paid.”
The Union has been demanding that sugar mills in the region pay farmers the full amount owed to them for their sugarcane.
